FAQ

Here are some of the question I’m most asked. They typically fall into three categories:
- questions about this site
- professional questions
- personal questions
Statistics & Research questions:
1. Do you think I really can learn statistics?
Yes. It’s all about relaxing and taking your time. Most people have never spent much time thinking about research and statistics. So, like a language, learning to “think stat” is not a quick fix. Give it some time.
2. Are the answers to #4 (insert your favorite item number here) correct. When I do it, I get 2.1446, not 2.16.
In general, your answer depends on your method. If you use a hand calculator, and write down each sub-answer on the way, you’ll be rounding at each step. In comparison, if you use a spreadsheet on your computer (or keep everything in your calculator’s memory), your answers will more likely match mine. So check your method, check with your friends, and if still doesn’t add up (so to speak), let me know…mistakes have been known to be made.
Profession questions:
1. What do actually DO for a living?
For the last 20+ years, I’ve been a professor and a consultant. I go back and forth between which I do full time and which is part time, but it seems I’m always doing both. As a professor, I teach college and university courses online and face to face. As a consultant, I work with corporations and non-profits on large-scale national and international projects. I write surveys people want to answer, evaluate training programs, and design processes to improve productivity. And I write books.
2. Can I hire you?
Consultants usually answer this question with something that sounds like “If you have the money…” But because of my daughter’s health issues, I’m do less consulting and more writing. I still design survey forms but it’s not for the faint of heart (prices start at $1000). So if you have the money…
Personal questions:
1. Where can I find out more about you?
Try my premiere website www.KenTangen.com.
2. How is your daughter doing?
Thanks for asking. She’s still quite sick: no longer able to walk on her own. She can’t sit straight up for any appreciable amount of time, her eye focus still goes screwy (technical term), and her muscles just don’t work. It’s been 9 years since she went to Nicaragua for the summer and came home sick. Still no known cure. For more, go to How’s Katrina?
